Old Gaffer Piers Rowlandson turns Wordsmith

After two years of writing and 40,000 words later, Piers Rowlandson has finally launched his 1 st novel, Rivers. From his home on the Isle of Wight, retired Consultant Paediatrician Piers, 68 years, Told My Classic Boat. ‘The book covers the last ten years in the life of Rick, a widowed, retired ENT surgeon, turned Master of a gaff cutter. His adventures include sailing with his cabin boy named Lucy. Falling in love with a much younger woman and finally finding solace with his second wife’.

He continued. ‘When I retired I decided to sail in the summer and write novels from home in the winter. The locations in Rivers are loosely based on my log books of trips to the West Country and the coast of Brittany.  He says the story is about sailing but includes romance on the water and added. ‘All the characters in the book are fictional. The romance provides the human interest.

Piers is a retired Consultant Paediatrician. (St Mary's IOW and Hon. Senior Lecturer Child Health in Southampton)He moved to the Island with his family in 1995. Married twice: with four children. He sails his 1993, 28ft gaff cutter Carlotta out of Cowes.

Rivers, A Gaff Cutter called Patience, is available on Amazon as a Kindle at £3.84 or paper back £7.   http://amzn.eu/ckS0RBc

What a fantastic 1st year we’ve had. We launched our video channel in March 2016 and from a standing start we’ve  smash through the 250,000 viewer mark.  Now look where we are now. Incredible that from zero viewers to a ¼ million people from around the world in 12 months. All classic boat lovers who’ve spent more than one million minutes watching  your beautiful boats and listening owners amazing stories.

We’d like to thank everyone who’ve  generously given their time and effort to allow our cameras on board. You are the backbone to this channel and we really do appreciate it. Not forgetting the folks on land, in the boat yards, brokerages, marinas and yacht clubs who’ve helped us in so many ways.

This season we shall be doing the same. Searching for more classic boat owners to star in our films. Our aim is to continue producing exclusive high quality content with you in mind. If you’d like to appear in one of our videos or you have an interesting story. Please contact   Bob Aylott 07802 7773737

We're the World's No1 Classic Boat Channel

End of 2017 Season from myclassicboat founder Bob Aylott

As we approach the end of this year’s sailing season. It’s a good time to look back at our few months online. Our 2nd season at myclassicboat.com has produced some amazing videos. With massive viewers around the world.

In the course of shooting and interviewing. I’ve been privileged to have sailed on some incredible yachts with amazing owners. At the time of writing this. More than 890,000 people have viewed our films on YouTube and many thousands more have visited our Facebook page and web site.

Big numbers for us as a new channel focusing on the small niche market of classic boats. Our channel began with the concept of interviewing owners while showing their classic boats in action. We wanted interesting dialogue from real people talking about their passion and their boats. Not just pretty videos of yachts crashing through waves and piped music. We are proud to say we are the only channel world-wide that delivers that winning format. Now  we have our mascot, Pebbles, our own little dog who opens every video with a roar. Well, it's more of a yap, but we love her.

This winter I’ll be editing another 30 or so videos to be released over the closed season. So watch out, we’ve even more great films coming your way. Now you’ve seen what we do, maybe it’s time for us to film you and your classic boat. Contact us now. Contact

Lastly a big thanks to all the owners who’ve stared in the videos and to everyone who has assisted us in the shooting of our feature films.

Thanks Bob Aylott
